Vacation

Just got back to work after a week and a half off of tattooing (hence the no posts).
Mostly stayed home and hung out with the family and did a few short day trips. The Trees of Mystery were a particular hit (home of the world's largest Paul Bunyan statue and a very anatomically correct Babe the Blue Ox). No drawing or even looking at art books for over a week.
Sometimes you have to empty the cup to fill it back up...

Tiger

The year of the tiger energy continues.
Making pretty quick progress on this one. Two more short sessions and it's done.
He's been sitting and healing great, a real pleasure of a project.

Skull and Chrysanthemum

Colored the second flower on this piece. It's been a very fun one and looking forward to having it all dialed in pretty soon...

Suikoden Leg

Almost finished with this whole leg piece. It is five heroes from Japanese artist Kuniyoshi's series of Suikoden prints. It is a very famous Chinese story that was translated to Japanese in 1757 and became a wildly popular phenomenon in Japan. It is the story of 108 outlaw heroes and their exploits.
Several of the warriors in the story have full body tattoos, and this was the initial inspiration for the aesthetic of Japanese full back and body tattoos. Most of the dudes on this leg have full single needle body suits themselves.
It has been a very difficult tattoo to photograph as a whole. We usually do 2-3 sessions on consecutive days every few months or so. Maybe when it's done and all healed I can get him to shave his leg for the final photo session...
More to come...

Lotus

Short session. Just the purple this time.
I'll finish the center and maybe start some background next time around.

Tiger Painting

Here is the painting I did for the Year of the Tiger Art Show.
Liquid acrylic and gold leaf on cold press Arches.
I'm thinking about making some affordable prints of this one. Let me know if you're interested...

Year of the Tiger Art Show

I am very excited and honored to be a part of this art show at Seventh Son Tattoo if San Francisco next week. There is some serious international and local Bay Area talent involved. I'll actually be there early next week but coming home before the opening...oh well.
